Due to the specific field of study, students often require practice and work on rivers and seas, so Department of Oceanography, Meteorology and Hydrology, Faculty of Physics – Technical Physics, University of Studying Natural Sciences; National University – Ho Chi Minh City cooperated with Lam Son Swimming Pool Management Board to organise a training day on “drowning prevention” skills for students (Figure 1) on 25th September 2023. The course attracted nearly 60 students to participate. During the lesson, Mr. Vo Dinh and Mr. Truong Vi Nguyen (Figure 2) presented the following topics to students:

– Possible risks of drowning

– Safety principles

– Rescue skills when someone is drowning

In addition, students directly practise rescue measures when someone is drowning, such as throwing a buoy and helping a drowning person while still ensuring their safety (Figure 3). Many students’ questions were answered clearly and in detail by the instructors.

The class ended at 11:00 a.m., students took a photo with the two instructors (Figure 4). This course helps students recognise the importance of swim, recognise previous misconceptions when encountering a drowning person, and improve their skills to keep themselves and those around them safe.
