The University of Science, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNUHCM-US) has recently been officially recognized by ASIIN (Germany), one of Europe’s leading accreditation agencies in higher education, for meeting international quality standards in several academic programs under the field of Earth Sciences, including Oceanology, Geology, Environmental Science, and Environmental Engineering Technology.

Following a comprehensive review conducted by a team of ASIIN experts in December 2023, the accredited programs underwent a one-year process of improvement and refinement in response to the recommendations provided by the evaluation board. As a result, the Earth Sciences programs have now officially been awarded international accreditation, valid through September 30, 2030.

ASIIN is renowned for its rigorous assessment of academic programs in engineering, natural sciences, mathematics, and computer science. Receiving ASIIN accreditation serves as a strong testament to the quality of education, the relevance and modernization of curricula, and the academic excellence of faculty and students in the Earth Sciences disciplines.

Among the accredited programs, Oceanology—one of the University’s distinctive academic offerings—was also honored with this recognition. The Oceanology program at VNUHCM-US is the only program of its kind in Southern Vietnam providing high-quality human resources in the field of marine sciences, with nearly two decades of development and contribution to the region. The internationally accredited majors include Oceanology, Meteorology, Hydrology, and the interdisciplinary program in Oceanology – Meteorology – Hydrology.

Achieving ASIIN accreditation marks a significant milestone that recognizes the tireless efforts of the Oceanography faculty and students in continuously enhancing and innovating the curriculum, as well as improving teaching and learning methods.

In the current context, where basic sciences are facing increasing challenges in terms of resources and societal demand, this international accreditation offers a solid foundation for the Oceanology program—and Earth Sciences as a whole—to further grow, integrate globally, and contribute meaningfully to research, education, and community service.
