On September 30, 2023, PhD student Le Nguyen Hoa Tien successfully defended her doctoral thesis in Geophysics at the University of Sciences, VNU-HCM.
Title: SEDIMENT DYNAMICS IN THE MANGROVE AREAS
Supervisor:
Assoc. PhD VO LUONG Hong Phuoc
During the defence, the PhD student presented the research results of the thesis in detail and clearly. Accordingly, the thesis focuses on studying suspended sediments in mangrove forests.
Specifically, the author used the WAPROMAN model to research the Can Gio and Cu Lao Dung mangrove forests. The results showed that mangroves played an important role in wave attenuation, with the attenuation rate reaching 50% – 60% when waves propagated over 280 m from the forest edge to inside the forest. The results from the mathematical model are consistent with the analysis of actual measured data.
The doctoral dissertation committee in Geophysics highly appreciated the scientific significance, new results and practical applicability of the dissertation. The Committee recommended recognising the doctorate degree for PhD student Le Nguyen Hoa Tien.
