On the morning of May 29, 2023, the University of Natural Sciences, VNU-HCM held the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the SCRIPPS Institution of Oceanography, University of California (USA).
The SCRIPPS Institution of Oceanography was formerly a small biological laboratory established by the San Diego Marine Biological Society at La Jolla Cove, led by Mr. Ritter as scientific director in 1907. Today, the institute focuses on deep ocean research and primary receives funding from the US National Science Foundation. Currently, SCRIPPS Institution of Oceanography is implementing many global ocean research projects, typically the Argo project, which is ‘an international program that collects information from inside the ocean using a fleet of robotic instruments that drift with the ocean currents and move up and down between the surface and a mid-water level (https://argo.ucsd.edu/)’.
At the Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony, representatives of both delegations agreed in implementation of the cooperation project and believed that the event will open many opportunities for extensive and long-term cooperation in various fields, especially in the oceanographic research and educational exchange programs.
The main activities of the cooperation will be undertaken in the following modes:
- To organize joint scientific training workshops, seminars, conferences, etc.
- To carry out joint scientific projects, expedition and other scientific activities.
- To exchange scientific expertise, observational data, information, research results, projects plans and publications.
- To facilitate the exchange of experts, students, young scientists.
The discussion had taken place successfully with the final decision and conclusion of the time to implement research cooperation and training programs will be expected to begin from the end of November 2023.
