Along with the development of the Department of Oceanography, Meteorology and Hydrology, the Department’s Laboratory is also constantly being invested and upgraded to meet the increasing learning and scientific research needs of students and lecturers in the fields of oceanography, meteorology, hydrology and environment.

In 2012, the laboratory received a large investment from the University of Science with modern equipment: Flow meter (ADCP), water quality meter (CTD), current meter (AEM 213), and seabed topography (echo sounder) …. In addition, since then, laboratory equipment has been continuously added through state-level research projects and foreign cooperation projects (RBR Concerto wave meter, JFE Advantech AEM-USB current meter, … ). To ensure that laboratory equipment operates well and accurately, every year, the equipment is always maintained, repaired, and calibrated with funding from the University. With a long investment period of many years from many different funding sources, Bo Mon Laboratory can meet research needs in related fields: Hai Duong, Meteorology, Hydrology, and Environment.

Along with investing in equipment, the laboratory also constantly improves professional capacity to ensure proper preservation and operation of equipment. Currently, laboratory managers all have master’s degrees or higher.

The laboratory has made certain contributions to teaching and scientific research by students and lecturers. Right from the first year, students learn about the operating principles of basic equipment. In the following years of study, along with improving theoretical knowledge, students regularly practice measuring and processing data directly on laboratory equipment. In particular, third-year students can directly deploy marine measuring equipment in the “practical internship” subject. Fourth-year students, graduate students, and graduate students of the Department also use data collected from survey trips, conduct measurements, and practice experiments in the laboratory to serve their “graduation thesis”. “master’s thesis”, “doctoral thesis”. Laboratory equipment is also the premise for research by Department staff on school-level, national university-level, state-level and international cooperation projects. In these projects and topics, the Laboratory always makes contributions in terms of equipment and human resources.
